Course Description
The Student Nurse Intern is a member of the nursing staff who is trained to perform specific tasks under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
This unique eight-week internship gives student nurses the opportunity to practice hands-o patient care in an atmosphere which is defined by intense caring and compassion.
The experience begins with assignment to a unit and a preceptor RN who will provide the Student Nurse Intern with the support and guidance needed to grow professionally.
South Nassau's Student Nurse Internship Program offers a broad scope of hands-on experiences. State-of-the-art equipment and modern patient care units present Student Nurse Interns with a range of learning experiences.
In addition to direct patient care, additional experiences are arranged for Student Nurse Interns to observe in one or two areas of interest.
Program Qualifications
Qualified applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited RN program (BSN preferred) and must have completed two (2) semesters of clinical nursing rotation in an acute care setting. This 8 week program is open to Junior nursing students entering their Senior year. A commitment of 37.5 hours per week including weekends is required. Students are assigned to two or three unit experiences on varied 8 hour shifts and will follow their preceptors schedules. This is a paid internship.
