Mission

South Nassau Communities Hospital

"The Mission of the Nursing Department
of South Nassau Communities Hospital
is to provide holistic nursing care."

We believe nursing is an art and science directed toward the protection, enhancement and preservation of human dignity.

We believe caring to be the essence of nursing. Inherent in the concept of caring is assisting others toward the wholeness within them through patient focused care. Nursing facilitates wholeness through health-illness healing experiences which require professional, scientific, esthetic and ethical human care transactions. We see the nurse as a catalyst in this process.

We recognize that the person exists as more than the sum total of the parts and consists of mind, body and soul in unification with an ever changing environment.

South Nassau Communities Hospital

We view the nurse, patient, and patient's family as co-participants in the nursing care process. We believe the person with his/her family and/or significant other has a need for assistance in the promotion of self-control, choice, and self determination with health illness decisions.

In order to facilitate an informed optimal level of wellness the patient is provided with educational opportunities that are in accord with his/her learning needs, values, and beliefs.
We believe health is a process and change is on-going. Cultivating this change requires a collaborative interchange among the multi-disciplinary members of the healthcare team.
